Suzette Govin ~ Testimonial

Team Members Imelda and Suzette help celebrate Harley's Birthday!

This was my seventh trip to Bolivia, and it continues to be a blessing and a privilege. I also am very grateful to Grace Bible Church for their continued support of Andrea’s Home of Hope and Joy and the teams that go there. It is very significant that  the words “hope and joy” are in the name of the orphanage, because you see hope and joy in every corner of the home. Hope and joy are part of everyday life there--the hope and joy that these children have to rise above their circumstances.  Many come from truly desperate situations. They find hope and joy in having family, food, clothing, a safe place to live, an education, and most importantly, the hope and joy they find in Christ.

And there is the hope and joy that the teams get from these trips. The anticipation of the trip, the travel to Bolivia, seeing the children and staff with their big beautiful smiles and hugs are truly a treasure.

One of the projects that I participated in was the spackling and painting of the outside of the buildings. That seems to be a perpetual project because of the hot, humid climate and the rainy season. Engaging with the children  is the best part of the trip. We did a relay race with 10  stations to test their skills. Soccer and baseball are also popular pastimes at the orphanage. Their favorite game is the Tiger Hunt. They use their imagination to go through different obstacles. The best part of this game is when the “tigers” burst into the room to chase the children. Their screams of joy and laughter are wonderful. The children always request this game. Also it was fun to see the orphanage participate in a Bolivian Independence Day parade. We also had a day of swimming with the children which they thoroughly enjoyed.

God is doing a mighty work in Guayaramerin, Bolivia. I look forward to returning, Lord willing. Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  And in that, there is also joy.
